Class Description
Syllabus

In Keyboarding, students will learn proper typing technique to improve speed and accuracy. Each student is tested upon entering the class to establish a beginning benchmark. As they learn and practice new skills and techniques, their scores will improve.

Students are graded on technique, lesson completion, test scores and projects. These scores are weighted as follows: Technique: 25%, Lesson Completion: 25%, Test Scores: 40% and Projects: 10%. Each Friday students are tested and have the opportunity to improve their grade.

In this class, practice really does make perfect. So keep practicing!

Grade Distribution and Description

Technique (25%)

Students are taught proper keyboarding technique.
Each day they are given five points for the following:

  • Sitting properly in their chair.
  • Keeping fingers on the Home Row.
  • Keeping feet flat on the floor.
  • Eyes on the copy (either the monitor or book).
  • Staying on task.

Lesson Completion (25%)

Practice is essential to successful keyboarding.  Each day students learn new skills using Applied Microtype software and companion textbook.  As students complete each lesson, they receive credit for completion.  The number of lessons completed varies based on each student’s progress.

Keyboard Tests  (40%)

Each week, students take keyboard tests to measure student improvement. The goal for each student is to improve on each of the pre-tests by 10 GWAM. Overall we want students to have a minimum score of 25 GWAM when entering high school. Students can take any test each week to improve their grade.

Grade Sheet (10%)

Students will create a grade sheet using skills learned in Microsoft Excel. Each week, they will update their test scores and maintain the spreadsheet. This is worth 5 points each week.
